Two Canoes

We knew when we bought the first canoe that we would actually need two. On Saturday, we bought the second one.
We had so much fun today. We went back up to Hyak (where the bike trail is). It also happens to have a reservoir that is, don't quote me here, King County's Water Reservoir. We have gone up there for years and let the kids play in the water. There are usually little canals and ditches that we walk/wade through.
Today, however, everything was under water. It was amazing to float over the tops of trees that we usually use as shade.
Perry and I learned today, that we are not comfortable being so far from shore with 5 kids (even in life jackets) when the water is so cold. Naturally we learned that by paddling out to an island (the second picture) and then fighting the wind to get back.
Once we managed to get back, we ate a snack and headed out again. But this time we stayed within 50-100 feet from shore so that if anyone tipped, they wouldn't freeze to death before we could get them out of the water. The reservoir is filled from the snow melt. The waterfall is pretty amazing, but boy is it cold right now.
The kids are having to learn to be still. Be very, very still. No, don't just reach over all of a sudden because that wave looked pretty and you want to touch it. No, don't do that. Perry and I feel like we're counterbalancing their movements the whole time. I'm sure we'll all get the hang of this. We just need more practice.
